What are eclipses? When and how can we see them? — Eclipses happen in various locations of the Earth every year. Next Solar Eclipse visible in New Zealand will be on 22 July 2028. For the best outcomes, you need to follow Safety rules and learn observing techniques and tricks. This Workshop is the perfect place to master them.

Goals of this workshop are:

  • Get familiar with astronomical eclipse phenomena
  • Master procedures for safely observing Solar Eclipses
  • Get familiar with eclipse observing techniques and tricks

You will learn:

  • What are eclipses
  • About the basics of our Solar System
  • How our Earth orbits the Sun and how the Moon orbits the Earth
  • How do Lunar and Solar eclipses occur and how often do these phenomena happen
  • How to watch Solar Eclipses safely and never hurt your eyes

Format of the course:

→ Theory with demonstrations 

→ Active learning: students participate in demonstrations

→ If the weather allows, we’ll safely look at the un-eclipsed Sun and photograph sunspots with Kim’s SeeStarS50 Smart-telescope/camera
